MySpace Portrait Project, Drawings by Jeff Hurlow
What does your MySpace profile say about you? How much of the real you do you reveal? What can a stranger tell just by looking at your face?
Artist Jeff Hurlow, whose drawings of the absurdly erotic elements of hummingbirds, Star Wars characters, the Simpsons and his sick obsessions sold out at their debut showings in New York and Los Angeles, is back with the Myspace Portrait Project.
In the Summer of 2005, Hurlow posted on his MySpace page the question, "Want me to draw you?" Underneath he put a button that said Yes. The response was overwhelming. He received requests from moms, teens and porn stars.
Anyone who wanted a drawing just had to answer one question: What are you like in relationships? Through their confessions and the words and images on their profile, Hurlow created drawings that were a bit comical, a bit biting and always honest and true to the one promise he made to everyone who participated: I won’t make you pretty.
